After a two week safari through Tanzania, I crossed the border over to Kenya to continue another week of wildlife viewing. With an abundance of wildlife parks, all located relatively close together, you can cover a lot in just a week on a safari in Kenya.
Amboseli National Park
The landscape of the Amboseli National Park is some of the most iconic that comes to mind when you think of an African safari. This park, on the border with Tanzania has epic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, which actually still had snow on the top when I visited the park. I set out on an early morning game drive and watched herds of elephants passing through the grasslands with Kilimanjaro in the back, which was truly unforgettable.

Tsavo West and Tsavo East National Parks
In the Tsavo parks I got to see my first cheetahs in the wild. It’s also where I got to see the “red” elephants, due to the reddish terrain in these national parks. But most importantly, it’s where I got a chance to visit the town of Tsavo, known for the legendary man-eating lions of Tsavo. Tsavo East has vast plains and baobab trees, whereas Tsavo West has lush vegetation, making it a bit harder to spot wildlife, but offering better chances to see birds hiding in the trees.
