Havana, Cuba’s biggest city and a bustling capital
For almost every traveler, the starting point of a trip to Cuba is Havana, the iconic capital city. The Spanish-colonial architecture mixed with Art Deco is what draws many to this city. Wandering around the streets and talking to the locals is the best way to experience the warmth and hospitality that its people have to offer. The old lady above with the cigar was someone I met on my first visit to Cuba. She was someone that caught my attention and we sat and chatted for a while before snapping a photo of her. I fell in love with her sense of humor and charisma. When I came back to visit a few years later, I found out that she had unfortunately passed away a few years back. Her name was Graciela and this photo I took of her is still one of my favorite travel photos I have taken to date.

Viñales: Cuba’s pristine valley and a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Viñales is a picturesque town in western Cuba known for its lush valley, dramatic limestone hills called mogotes, and traditional tobacco farming. The area offers stunning natural scenery with its red-soil fields and palm trees dotted over the landscape. It’s a popular destination for travelers seeking outdoor activities like hiking and exploring caves, all while experiencing authentic rural Cuban culture.

Trinidad: Cuba’s best-preserved and most authentic city
My personal favorite destination in Cuba has got to be the city of Trinidad. Old cobble stones streets, colorful facades and beautiful churches make up the old town of Trinidad where you will be guaranteed to hear music on almost every square around town. It’s not uncommon to see locals dancing on the streets to the latest Salsa beat. One of my most memorable moments was dancing with locals in a small local club in Trinidad only to realize I couldn’t keep up with them.
