After visiting Egypt for one week, my brother and I crossed over the Red Sea by boat over to Jordan. We arrived in the city of Aqaba which became our starting point into the deserts. We took a jeep safari into the vast desert of Wadi Rum, famous for “The Seven Pillars of Wisdom” rock formation that was spotted by Lawrence of Arabia. This desert has amazing views from the top of the rocks and a jeep ride on the sand dunes will have your heart skip a beat. It’s definitely something not to be missed. After a few days crossing the desert, we arrived in Petra. Of course no trip to Jordan would be complete without a visit to Petra. Once there, you swear you’re on the set of Indiana Jones…well also because part of the movie was filmed there. It takes about one hour walking through a narrow gorge before arriving at Petra’s most elaborate and recognized ruin called “The Treasury”. There is quite a bit to see since the area is adorned with ruins carved into the side of the sandstone cliffs. Take your time and you will be rewarded with fantastic views. After we took it all in, we left and headed for the capital Amman. To finish off our trip, we took a nice swim in the Dead Sea to cool off. It was very much needed.
