What do you get when you have colorful buildings in Cancun, ancient Mayan pyramids deep in the jungle, unique arts and crafts in Oaxaca, cricket-eating locals in San Cristobal, and cliff divers in Acapulco? Um…Mexico? Yes, you are correct. And I just named a few highlights. Don’t even get me started on the food. To really appreciate Mexico’s diverse culture, you need to go from one end to the other. Mexico City is one of the largest metropolises in the world and when you are in the middle of all of it, you can feel the energy running through the city. There is so much going on that it can get a bit overwhelming so take it slowly, be patient, and look both ways when crossing the street. Heading south from the capital, stop at Oaxaca for their Saturday craft market, a must-see. Here you will find their iconic art with wooden animals of all types colored in different patterns. The food market next door is equally entertaining. Continue east through the mountains to the charming city of San Cristobal de las Casas to get a feel of a small village in the middle of nowhere. Not too far away is Palenque. Here lie some impressive ancient ruins and pyramids in the jungles where you swear you are being watched by ancient Mayans. Hitting the east coast will bring you to spectacular beaches in Cancun as well as other Mayan sites like Chichen Itza and Tulum. This is a great final stop to relax and kick off your shoes after an adventurous trip through Mexico.

Next stop…Mexico
