Blue and white. Those are the colors of the Greek flag and it is clear why those colors were chosen to represent Greece. The cobalt blue water combined with the white-washed cubicle buildings are evident throughout the Greek Islands. I spent almost a full year in the Greek Islands while working there. I was fortunate enough to visit Athens and 14 islands which include Santorini, Milos, Naxos, Sifnos, Mykonos, Serifos, Amorgos, Ios, Folegandros, Paros, Antiparos, Syros, Spetses, and Poros. The island of Santorini has one of the most beautiful scenic vistas from atop the mountain. At sunset, the buildings reflect a soft pink tone and the rest of the island transforms its colors into pastel shades. Milos has some of the most amazing beaches as well as dramatic rock formations all along the coast. Naxos has many ancient ruins still standing, like the marble temple built in 530 BC which looks like a huge doorway at the entrance of the island’s port. Mykonos and Ios are the party islands but also boast beautiful scenery. Mykonos is also famous for its iconic windmills. Amorgos has the amazing Hozoviotissa Monastery which is built on the face of a cliff and provides breathtaking views of the sparkling blue water of the Aegean Sea. As you can see, there’s plenty to see and do here and you won’t be disappointed by the historical ruins scattered all over Greece. The food is delicious, the locals are friendly, and the sightseeing is plentiful. Each Greek island has something unique to offer and I tried my best to represent that.
